Semaglutide has been studied and developed for weight loss in addition to its primary use in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. A specific formulation of semaglutide, known as semaglutide 2.4 mg once weekly, has been approved for chronic weight management in adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or greater, or in those with a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater with at least one weight-related condition, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.
